Detox...Meh.

Ok so I have had a lot of questions asked about kick starting a routine and getting your body ready for the good stuff, including the best detox to use. I'm just going to say it...I do not believe in doing a detox. Please tell me how how drinking 8 oz of water with lemon for every meal for 5 days will "jump start" your body and (lets use the choice word) "detox." It won't.

A good analogy I love to use is think of your body as a car. Most of us love our car. We try to keep it clean, when it gets dirty we clean it, when it needs an oil change we go get it changed, and when our check in engine light goes off, we go get it looked at. Most importantly, when it needs gas, we fill it up because a car as we all know, cannot run on empty. Your body is so much like a car! When our bodies are sick or our "check engine" light comes on, we go to the doctor. When we put a lot of sugars, candy, processed food, soda, too many carbs, not enough water, our bodies feel dirty. Satisfied sometimes don't get me wrong :) but dirty. And something I had to learn the hard way, when you don't feed your body and your expected to do an hour work out running on nothing, how do you expect your body to complete your workout...it can't. Fun analogy, but also so true.

One word however I DO like, is cleanse! Your body can always use a healthy cleanse every now and again. To get out all the built up toxins and help you feel just a little bit healthier. I don't know of any of you watch or love Dr Oz, but I love him! He is really smart when it comes to these cleansing meals. And they only last up to 3 days, anything longer makes your body go into starvation mode and after your cleanse, a lot of people's first instinct is to EAT. And then after they do that, they want to binge. Haha. So what he recommends is to mix in your cleanse shakes with your daily meals! Genius. Not only are you not having the urge to snack, these cleanse shakes are so filling and low ok calories that if you wanted to, you could make it apart of your daily diet.

All in all, don't detox your body. Those "Lose 10 pounds in 10 days" are called crash diets, simply because you crash. If you're looking to lose weight, the healthy way is always the better way. Me personally, I had to learn everything the hard way. I would run on no food, drink Advocare's Spark energy drink twice a day to keep moving (don't get me wrong, it's an awesome pre work out and morning drink that I will still drink) but your body can't function on 90 calories of fruit punch flavored water that makes you feel like your on crack with nothing else in your tummy. If you want to kick start a diet, start by cutting out unnecessary carbs, sugar, and get out and go on a walk! You can't tell me that marathon runners because awesome over night. There is a lot of blood sweat and tears that come with trying something new and looking for a visual result, but these things take time and patience. Remember it's all about what you feed your body. It's 70% what you eat, and 30% what you do in your free time. Also a good app to look into is My Fitness Pal. It's AMAZING! I don't know if any of you have seen my dad lately, but he's a walking result thanks for My Fitness Pal. But anyways long story short, Dr Oz has great recipes for cleanse meals so check out his website! Down below are some of my favorites that I would highly recommend :) Happy Tuesday!

The Run Down.

Welcome to my blog! You guys, I am so excited about this. I am so new at the whole blog thing but when I get obsessed with something, I obsess so I'm sure ill get the hang of it soon :)
For those of you who don't know me Ill tell you a little about me, my life, and what I'm up to!

I'm from Washington state, the best state if you ask me. And anyone who watches the Bachelorette would probably agree because the last 2 winners have come from Washington...just saying. I am the oldest of 4 kids, I have 2 fabulous sisters, a freakin cool 16 year old brother, and now a recent awesome brother in law! My parents are great and if you know them, you would think the same.

A lot of you already know, but because its such a huge part of my life, I am LDS and I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church has brought so many opportunities my way and I don't know where I would be without the Gospel in my life.

About 4 years ago, I moved to Utah and it has been the best decision I have made! I work full time for an Oral Surgeon in Park City, yes I make the drive because my job makes it worth it, and clearly I love my job! And in my spare time as a single 23 year old, I work out, work other people out, and obsess over fitness. My life in a nut shell has been great, with many ups and many downs, but please tell me what girl hasn't had extreme ups and downs. We live and learn, we persevere, and we grow stronger with every battle. I love sports, especially football and basketball. I love the outdoors and all water sports, I love traveling, spending money, shopping, and most importantly, health and fitness!

Ok so I promised a fitness blog so lets start! Some of the basics I have learned with fitness:

  • You have to do it at your own pace. Everyone has different body types and  goals they are wanting to achieve.
  • Do NOT compare yourself to other people. Trust me on this, I struggle with this more than the average person, but comparing yourself to somebody else will steal your joy and take away all of your hard work. You are your best self.
  • Make goals. And most importantly, keep them! And when you reach them, reward yourself. Maybe not by eating a tub of ice cream as if your boyfriend just broke up with you like I might have done 2 months ago... ;) but go buy new shoes, or new pants! You have to keep yourself motivated in a healthy way, but most importantly you have to have fun!
  • When you train, go 100%, 100% of the time. If you half ass your work outs (there is no other way to put it..) you will get half ass results. When you work out, you get out of it what you put in to it, so give it all you can!
As all of you know, I love running. If I could, I would just run and not do anything else. I use to hate running, but after a few broken hearts, going through that "what am I doing with my life" phase, I developed a strong love and an awesome therapy like obsession with running. In other posts, ill post my runs, work outs, and my marathon plans for the rest of 2013 and running season in the months to come after that!

I'll try and post as much as I can when I can, so please be patient with me! If any of you want any help in the gym or just have questions, email me at MalerieJPitt@gmail.com :)
